Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tฮฑ1) is a 28-amino-acid peptide naturally produced by the thymus gland. The thymus is responsible for the maturation of T cells โ€” the white blood cells that coordinate and execute adaptive immune responses. Tฮฑ1 production declines as the thymus involutes with age, which corresponds to the gradual weakening of adaptive immunity in older adults.

Thymosin Alpha-1 enhances T-cell maturation and function, increases the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, and modulates cytokine production to promote a more balanced immune response. It has a dual action in this regard: it can upregulate immunity when it's underperforming and modulate it when chronic inflammation is the problem.

Tฮฑ1 is approved as a pharmaceutical in more than 35 countries under the name Zadaxin, primarily for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and as an adjunct to cancer treatments. In the US, it's available through licensed compounding pharmacies for clinical use.
